trying to vectorize an image using flash

im trying to vectorize this image using flash. this school doesn't have any adobe products so using macromedia stuff is all i can try.

i've done this before but for some reason when i erase, it just goes away. here's the steps i took:

- click on the erase tool
- under the options toolbox, click on the erase mode modifier
- use 'erase lines' on the whole image

thats a usual easy way to get a vector (well vector looking) image.

i've also tried modify -> trace bitmap... that way doesn't work either. please help!
