Cutting Images

Hi, I am completley new to this programme so dont no much about it. What i want to do is cut an immage. So for example i want to make a wallpaper, and i have an image of somone and i just want to cut them out of the image and put it onto a different background. How do i do this? thanks.

If Photoshop, try using the magic wand tool, or the extract tool (Filter > Extract).

I am using photoshop, but i dont get how to use the magic wand thing?

Take out the polygonal lasso tool. Set the feather to 2px
