How do I create this pointed circle effect in Illustrator

Can somebody tell me how to create the effect of the attached where there's a circle with pointed edges in Illustrator CS? I've tried using the star tool then pressed up a bunch of times while creating it, but the points are like halfway between the middle and outer edge of the circle. I don't want the points to go in any more than a few pixels.

Also, is there an easy way to place multiple circles on top of each other so their centerpoint is exactly on top of one another? If so, how do I do this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like they just used a polygon tool imo, but very carefully and slowly to make the edges exact. Or they just have a custom shape thing that they downloaded. Meh I can't really tell .

Not sure about the shape, but if you select all of the circles you wanna center, then go to the ALIGN window you should be able to center them.

use the star tool. there are two ways of doing that.

1) Choose the star tool and do ONE click where you want it. A window appears asking you for radius 1 and radius 2

2) Choose the star tool, click and drag and you'll form a star. WHILE dragin use the arrows (up/down) of keyboard to make more points and use CTRL+dragging to make one of the radius bigger or smaller.

or you can just make one spike, and try using the old rotate tool.

1. make a circle
2. make a single spike on the outside.
3. with the spike selected grab the rotate tool
4. control click in the middle of the CIRCLE. you must be exact here
5. set you distance, u may ned to test this a few times
6. hit copy, not ok
7. press ctrl+d to duplicate the spike going al the way around the circle

haha ... different opinions on this one, but i think either one will work. although genome_soldier's suggestion will take longer.

by the way, it's not a pointed circle, it's called a starburst Wink
