Yup. Why not have the government step in and tell us? No different than the stupid warning labels. Either way, I see it as a positive thing. Now, if they were trying to make a LAW about it, that would be a whole different story. No pun intended.

Been using IE for years....never had a problem. Stop going to porn and warez sites and you'll be fine....unless of course you're a moron....which sadly is true for most of you.

Heh. I'd have to agree that a large percentage of computer problems are caused by stupid users, even if they're well-intentioned stupid users. But combine stupid users and a poorly designed browser, and matters just get worse. You have to wonder though... if some other browser besides IE were used as extensively as it is, compared to the alternatives, would malware target and defeat that one just as often?

I'd prefer the term "misinformed" because, largely, that's true. Just because I'm better with helping people pick the right color lampshade to accent their couch than I am at fixing a car doesn't make me a "stupid mechanic".
I say "misinformed" because a lot of people will see a Dell commercial, buy the machine, and expect it to work like the company claims. If some auto company sold you a car promising it'll run forever without any maintenence and you take them at their word, are you stupid? Possibly, but only if you SHOULD know better. I think we're only as good as our experiences vs. the information we're given. If grandma buys a PC without any prior experience and expects it to run like promised, I don't think she's stupid, just sadly misinformed.
We simply need more public awareness about spy/mal ware, timely patches and updates, and staying protected.
I don't think it's much different than sex. Abstinence arguments aside, if you don't educate the people on how to properly protect themselves, why get mad when they quickly become disease-ridden?

If most of us are morons, why did you come back?
Anyways, this is pretty cool news.

Ok then, if you're going to argue about semantics, "misinformed" will do. The point is that people are largely uneducated about how to use computers properly and protect themselves from scams; so it may not entirely be the browser's fault, though of course in Microsoft's case we can assume quite a bit.
I emphatically agree with you regarding educating users. Computers are a business tool now; those who use them should be at least marginally familiar with the way they work. When you learn to drive, you become acquainted with the controls, with the driving environment, and with how to use the controls in the driving environment. It isn't too much to ask at least that much of those who use a computer on a daily basis as part of their jobs.
