I've done it, but honestly can't post links here.
The problem with porn sites (or basically any kind of site where you're asking people to pay for access, like a casino) is that the competition is more and more intense all the time, with everyone vieing to appeal to your most base senses, trying to grab your attention better than the next guy.
On the sites I've done I've gone in the exact opposite direction, stripping down all the glitter and glam. The result was that the site itself felt naked. Instead of lots of color and glitz screaming at you from the screen, I gave something extremely basic which really came off as downright sexy. It gave people the sense that the site was no-nonsense. Nothing complex about it; easy nav leading to the fastest access possible with the least amount of hassle. Not a lot of hardcore pics to distract people, rather just very limited but strategically placed softcore teases. There are only one or two people to look at while you're moving around (until you hit the galleries) and the consistency of quality has to be kept stringent.
It's an anti-marketing marketing technique that has yet to catch on mainstream, but it really, REALLY works. People have proven that they are sick of commercials. In a day and age where everyone who wants your money is absolutely screaming for your attention as obnoxiously as possible, giving people a plain package that tells you with the most honest imagery EXACTLY what they're getting really seems to work.
Not that these are the right forums to ask about this sort of thing, but hopefully what I said helped (sorry, no links).
