script to check image if rgb or cmyk?

Is there a way to do this?

I have an image upload script that resizes and sharpens a picture, however it only works if the files are rgb.
I need to be able to catch the one in a thousand that try to upload a cmyk file.

well if it doesnt work with a cmyk image, wont the upload+sharpen script fail? then you can put it in your error message that it requires an rgb image
