I think Tsukmar said it best referring to the amount of contrast. While there have been a lot of relevant comments made, I think the contrast, or lack there of is what really pulls this banner down. When there is too much of one colour the eye doesn't know where to go. You should try breaking things up a bit for some variety if at all possible.

Plus the textures don't look good boxed up as they are. You should try to find some way to make the textures be the seperation or border for the center.

...it looks like fungi on a tree dyed blue.

Its too messy is the easiest way to put it. You should be trying to come up with something appealing to the eye, that just rushes around too much. It isnt all that bad for the first week in photoshop though.
