Question for the Illustrator Gurus

I was just wondering how you put up these 'guides' they have on the Illustrator templates. This is very helpful because when i save for the web (jpg., gif, etc) these 'guides' act as borders, so if I have other junk illustrations away from the artboard it doesn't get saved.

I attached an image so you can get an idea of what I'm talking about.

Arent they just page crop marks? They basically make it easy for you to cut out your work without having a key line around it. So look for 'show crop marks' or something similar in the menus/preferences.
