Hmm is it possible to use antialiased icons in all windows verses?
In WinXP the map icons in winexplorer are antialiased so I'm guessing so, how about other windows versions?

you can make transparent icons for windows xp with photoshop... all you have to do is create an alpha channel and save as a bmp with the alpha channels checkbox checked... all you have to do after that is rename the extention of the file to ico instead of bmp... you're going to have to show file extensions though... this would save you some money by not having to buy a plugin or other app for it.

Hmm, when I do that it won't let me load it as a pictogram. And Acdsee doesn't recognize it either. Must you save it as a 24 bit/ 32 bit/ .. in particular?

Here, I found this and it supports transparency - both solid and gradients -- as you can see by the attached.
