Colouring old black and white image?

Hi Guys

I have an image of an old black and white photograph of a historical figure, which I would like to convert to colour.

The photograph was taken in 1918 and it is of poor quality but no scratches or dents. The copy is taken out of an old newspaper.

I wonder of anyone here can advice me on how to change it to a colour in the highest quality possible as I am adding the result to a professional website.

I tried few tricks myself but I am still not happy with the result and I know some of you here are highly talented and will be able to help producing a professional finish.

I need the photograph to look like it was taken in colour originally. If it is possible?

I could e-mail the image if you need to see it.

Thank you

I'm almost positive that there have been many similiar questions such as this, so if student's link does not work make sure to use the forum's Search button.

Thank you guys for the replies.

I have tried that already and the result is good but still not top class in my opinion!

Maybe I have to put up with it as it is an old photograph and it is very difficult to get it spot on.

But any other ideas are still welcome.

Thanks again

firsr sure that the image is in RGB mode, then select each places u need to change color and take color balance, ctrl+b.
if u doing this for hard colors take hue/saturation, ctrl+u,

Best of luck

Thank you for the help Student and here are the images:

Sorry I had to edit this message as the images are not loaded up.

I have to upload them to the net first it seems!

I'll do it later when I find my password to a test site I have used before.

But if you are around later, I could e-mail them to you. If it is OK by you.
