There's no real determined factor that says who they will be and what they will accomplish. There are tons of "useless" kids out there, and they as well as "mentally handicapped" persons should not be looked down upon- noone should.

Like has been said a few times in this thread already, go and get a job or volunteer to help with some disbaled ppl. I am sure you will learn from actual experience with disabled ppl that they are still human like you, just different, not better , not worse, just different.... like you and me are different...
at least give it a try? what have you got to lose, but everything too gain, plus you ge to help ppl.

Alright - so after ~68 posts, I have changed a little. Mentaly Challenged people should be dealt with, just not killed.
You mean locked up out of your sight so you don't have to be confronted with something you don't like? Guess what, you could have been one of them, we all could have. Is it that what scares you?
That would not have made us any less human or gave us any less right to live.
The way I see it you are one of those people that prolly think that homeless people should be dealt with aswell, as it makes you uncomfortable to see them.
Your reactons have got nothing to do with feeling that "they suffer in life", it's just an egocentric reaction of you not being comfortable around them.

I remember watching this story about an autistic man on TV. He was born autistic, hated being around people because they, frankly, scared him. But finally, at the age of like 35 or something, he was able to overcome his fear enough that he got a job... working in an office. People all around him, and because they treated him well, he was comfortable around them. He doesn't talk much, but he does his small jobs well. He still has someone to help take care of him, but in a way he gives back as much as he can. And even though he is in ways handicapped, he's an absolute genius. Absolutely gifted in so many ways. On the documentary, they showed something that took my breath away. A person played out on a piano for the autistic man the Moonlight Sonata. After hearing it one time, the autistic man was able to reproduce it exactly. Never played the piano before, but was able to play it perfectly and beautifully.
And Bio, please describe what "dealt with" means.

I think that all humans should be treated as equals...But I can't see that happening any time soon...Another part of me thinks that "What are these disabled people going to DO?" I mean, these teachers and social workers etc. are using so much energy on someone who, in some cases, is almost brain dead. I do not think that wasting that much time and energy on someone thats incapable of living a life and speaking, let alone moving, is a good idea, nor good use of resources. But like I said before, another part of me thinks not. I'm kind of on both sides. Someone convince me please.

You could easily say such things about kids who aren't behaving or learning quick enough in school. "The teachers are wasting their times with these kids, so we should ban them from the school for failing to learn like normal kids."

or people with financial hardships. "Taxes are being wasted on poor and low income families, so we should 'deal' with them"
