Why not just upgrade to a Radeon ATI 9800? DepthX he is prolly stickin wit Nividia rather than ATi since in many people's opinions they're better. Well here is my opinion... I think you should keep 5200 for a while because if you wait a few months prices on video cards can drop a hundred bucks and also I bet they'll have a new FX in not to long. But i'm not sure if you want to be a big money saver or not. If I had an FX it would hold me for a good year before I bought another one. To bad dell gave me the wrong computer... Stupid half-body NOTHING FITS! Hmm I'll try sawing a video card in half or maybe just leave my case open haha ___________________ If nvidia really gets their stuff together, they'll release a completely new architecture, meaning a new series of card. None of the FX cards are too great with DX9 games, so I'd have to say to wait on that upgrade. Hopefully they'll have a new family out soon that can actually compete with the upper-end Radeons in a DX9 environment. Considering nvidia's loyalty to their own release schedule, wait for the new family, and then wait another six months or so; at that point they'll pump out a new flagship, drop the prices on the lower-end versions of the new chipset, and you'll be in business. ___________________ Very true with ATi also, i waited to last june to buy my Radeon9500Pro, and it still with every new game with very good FPS, max detail, no problems. I simply cant understand why anyone spends 400-500 on a graphics card. ___________________ "No matter if it is a white cat or a black cat; a cat that can catch rats is a good cat."
I doubt prices will drop $100. I mean a 9700 pro (when you can find it is still about 250, just 50 dollars cheaper then when it was being produced.) As for your 256mb 5200- you got riped off big time. The archetecture of the 5200 cannot really benefit from 256mb of memory. By the time you'll gain more then 1 fps from teh extra 128mbs of memory your gpu will be very outdated (your 5200 is about equal to a 4200 or gf4 mx). Sorry to rain on your parade but it's just what i think based on the countless reviews and user opinions i've read. As for a new card I'd wait untill q2 of this year if your card playes with good frames whatever game you play. If it doesn't there is no real point in waiting. Get a 128 mb card. If you must go nvidia i'd get teh 5900 because it's better then the 5700 ultra and online it's about the same price. ___________________ Back in the states. |
