It's pretty dumb. In most (and almost any) other industry, there would be nothing illegal about this. The rights holders to "my big fat greek wedding" aren't suing the makers of "my big fat fiance". ABC isn't suing NBC. The internet laws are truly warped if microsoft has any ground to sue this person at all.

Think about it for a second: Microsoft and Mike Rowe Soft (Mikerowesoft).

I saw this yesterday on another forum and I also think it's quite stupid.

I guess I'm the odd one out here...

But I'm pretty sure that any major corperation would sue over a domain name that phonetically sounds the same. It isn't just the big bad Microsoft.

I also find it funny how this kid works, Microsoft offered to refund everything he has spent on the site ( 10 dollars) and he rebuttles with a request for 10,000. Haha, like that is gonna happen.

Yes, his name is Mike Rowe which sounds like Micro... adding the soft to this has to obviously be to be because the name recognition of Microsoft... which in that case, yes he is commiting copyright infringment, using their well established name to make it so people can easily find his website.

The fact that this is about a kid doesnt matter, what he did is still not right. I will agree that this whole thing is pretty stupid and was blown out of proportion though.....

So yeah, I guess I side with Microsoft on this one. Wink

My mother actually told me this a few days ago :grumpy...guess I need to start reading the paper more.

I thought it was funny and a good way for Mike to spread his business. Though, I don't really side with either because I don't really care what happens. Just thought it was funny.

Jezus christ, oh no it must be really bad like everyone going to "microsoft.com" spells it wrongly as "microwesoft.com"

10$ it costs more to register a domain / host, someone say bad publicity for MS here - lucky ms doesnt have home user competion or stunts like this would put them under.

Props to the kid though Smile

If any queer ms pos reads this then get the F off your cheese boat you dont own us

Dimitry

He said that Microsoft's Canadian lawyers sent him the letters, so no.

I'm almost tempted to buy a domain www.MyCrowSoft.com dedicated to my friendly neighborhood crow. He's nice and soft Grin
