Graphical Front End

Hi, I hope someone can offer me some advice,

I need to build an application which will be similar in functionality and look to programs such as WinAmp or Windows Media Player. The backend functionality has already been programmed, all I need to do is design and build a professional looking frontend with cool buttons (play, stop, pause, etc), plus a current status box. The buttons need to have code attached to them which can talk to the existing backend program, as well as having overstates, downstates, etc.

I have a prototype built in Visual Basic 6, but I'm struggling trying to make a VB program look cool and professional. It would be good if I could draw the frontend interface from scratch using a program such as Paint Shop Pro, but I am unsure if I would be able to integrate my graphics with code.

I have no experience in producing aesthetically pleasing applications so any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I basically want to know what would be the best way of drawing a cool media player interface and attaching code to it. Would Flash be a good tool to use?

Hope someone is able to offer some advice,

Dave

You could use Photoshop or any other graphic editor to make your player components.
Then use ActiveX with the correct DLLs to apply graphics to your controls.

Yes theres a completely different type of window mode that you can use instead of the standard box etc, www.gametutorials.com im sure has something on that under win32, sure its in c++ but its all similar. Or there may well be a setting on the object inspector for your VB compiler.
