Help Needed With Gif Files!!
Sorry for the caps all, but as you can see i really need help.
I recently made a new signature on Photoshop 7 and it uses a great deal of transparency. I want to feature it on a site i visit as my signature but when trying to save as GIF, (after the background has been deleted) it still gives poor results. I want to be able to lose the background but keep everything as it is, all transparency included. If anyone can help me from what you see i have made then that'd be most appreciated.
Well to simplify further, what i would like is the 45 degree scanline central box and lines attached to the image etc to stay. but the blue background to go, while making everything remain see through when it appears online....

PNG handles transparency well but it has issues w/certain browsers I believe.

Yeah i tried a PNG save and i could see a diference but it was hardly better. Just worse quality and a tiny bit of transparency.
Is there no other way???

design your image over a bg colour that is the same as the bg you intend to use your image.
Thats the best your going to get, the rest is just practice, try changing the settings when you save as a gif, its not rocket science, but it takes experience, you cant teach experience...
any image that has curves.or 45 deg lines will be harder to work with when making trans gifs... nature of the beast....

You probably didn't use the right version of PNG- They'll come out pretty much perfect and exact w/every level of transparency.

I think you did the 256 color png way.
PNGs, in their full glory, support alpha transparency but won't work with Internet Explorer, so I'd reccomend a gif instead.

Well if your trying to do partial transparency, thats not possible with a gif. It *is* possible with a png, but as I said Internet Explorer has problems with pngs and alpha transparency. There was a way with Paint Shop Pro to acheive a somewhat partial transparency by taking the bg color of your selected site a blending it with your transparent gif. I think you can do this in photoshop by changing the diffusion in the "indexed colors" dialog box, but I'm not 100% sure because I haven't had experience with it. So make sure the areas you want transparent are completely transparent. Also, make sure when the "Indexed Colors" dialog box comes up that your have Transparency checked.
