Aligning these images + text correctly

Hi. I don't have an example uploaded yet, but I can describe it here:

You have a table that has one row, and the row has three cells. This is going to look like a tab.

Cell 1 | Cell 2 | Cell 3

Cell 1 will have a picture of the left part of the tab and the picture is aligned to the right. Cell 3 will have a picture of the right part of the tab and aligned to the left.

Cell 2 has the background and the text.

I want to make it so the picture in Cell 1 will stay where it is - no matter what. Depending on the size of the text in Cell 2, the size of Cell 3 should be able to resize itself to accommodate the new text size of Cell 2.

For example, if I type just January, the sides of the tab should be in a position so they're close to the word. If I type a longer word, the tab should be able to resize itself somehow so the tab is longer.

Thank you.

for the first and 3rd u could use width='X' where x is the number of pixels and the 2nd u dont put in any width value. it will resize while the others stay the same width.

Hmmm, if I do that, the text ends up wrapping onto two rows if there are spaces.

I got this different example up:

But now there's an unexplained gap there...
