photoshop gradients not displaying right

as you can see (if your monitor can distinguish the maroon from the black) the black bars running up and down just to the sides of the menu bar look like crap. their supposed to be gradients. i did the img in ps7 and have tried all the filetypes dw supports but none of them display the gradients right! what am i to do? are there perhaps plugins i can download and install so dw supports more filetypes? are there any filetypes you would suggest trying? thanks for your help.

make sure it's on something like jpeg - if they are on gif then your gradients may appear blocky
