I couldn't agree more...I post on /. regularly, and if there's one thing I've learned, it's to always, always, ALWAYS check the facts. Smile

Overpriced? Probably. I've already rethought my previous position. I plan to have a 15GB within a month's time. I'll let you all know how it works out. If we're lucky, they'll have improved that battery....

I should mention one thing though: you CAN get an external battery pack for them now to increase the life to 20+ hours. It's not a permanent fix, but it's a good start.

Very true. It more than doubles the bulk; the pack uses four AA batteries. If you have all the adaptors, I see no reason to need it other than a cross-ocean flight. I'll have adaptors and chargers pretty much everywhere I'll use mine. It'll almost always be plugged in to something.

I got a second generation myself. I prefer a third generation but the second does fine with its great battery life. I went on a car trip in which the third generation just wouldn't be enough.

I wish I could get the battery pack but the 2ng generation doesn't offer it Sad.

Great deal if your in the UK, the sterling dollar rate is great for us brits, and it sucks to be american at this moment...

Its around 1.81 GBP/USD rate at the moment, so guys in the UK can pick up the new iPod for around £135 Smile

Instead of the regular insane price in mainland Europe, 349 Euros for the cheapest one. Current rates is 433 USD for the cheapest, and 557 USD for the 20gigs with the dock and whatever... insane.

Um, nope. $299US for the cheapest full-size (15GB). That figure is directly from Apple.com.

Teccrom, would you show me the site where you've been getting your facts and figures concerning the iPod? I don't think you're making this info up at all, I'd just like to see where some of this info is coming from. Is there an iPod euro site or something? Are your figures from a reseller?

Just go to any european Apple site, they always have had higher prices in europe, www.apple.fi www.apple.de etc same prices. 349? for a 15 gig. If you go to www.apple.com you get US market prices.

http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/fistore?family=iPod
And do the math. Remember nowdays 1 euro is 1.25 usd about.

If i would order the 299$ ipod from US it would cost me 235 Euros.

Well that's weird. Because you've said things like

Quote:

Current rates is 433 USD for the cheapest,

which isn't at all what the US site says. If you had access to the US site, then why do the conversions yourself? US market price for the ipod doesn't fluctuate daily with the value of the dollar vs. the value of the Euro. It's a fixed price....

With current conversion rates... was showing how much they cost here, and converted them to usd for your easy comparison. It also is a fixed price here, i would have to pay that 349 Euros for it, and thats why the price in comparison is what it is. Compared and converted. And i'm not sure that if i would order it from the US store, they would sell it to me with the price there and force the 349 euros (433USD atm).
Understand now what i meant?

EDIT just noticed the ? marks after prices are supposed to be the euro symbol, ?, which this board doesnt seem to understand... hmm

EDIT2: http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/salespolicies.html
US SALES ONLY.
