I used to pronounce it "JIFF", but from now on i'm going to pronounce it the wrong way. just to piss off "noprofile" for being such a dork.

Well if they are saying the latin word versus and pronouncing it wersus than actually yes they are saying it wrong its perfectly logical. But if they are speaking a different language than latin they and saying wersus they arent saying the latin word versus now are they??? They are saying there own word derived from the latin versus.
Teruthar the situation youve presented is in no way the same as the "gif" "jiff".

Well actually yes Self Sufficient your right it can be pronounced any way the person wants to JUST LIKE ANY OTHER WORD. Any word can be said however the person talking wants to say it but that doesnt mean its correct. I agree with NP but I also dont really care how someone else says it as long as I know what they are talking about. In a last note though if you say it as something besides "jiff" it is wrong deal with it and stop arguing but no need to change your ways.

Read up what was said about other languages. Even if it was a different language, we should pronounce it as the CREATOR of the word said it should be pronounced.

Keep in mind that this is not my argument, I agree that it should be pronounced however someone wants to. I think it's ridiculous and I will continue to say "gif"

If you would have read what I said after that I wasnt saying differrent languages should pronounce it differently I was saying that your example wasnt related. Quote the whole thing or none of it dont twist what I said around.

Out of curiosity, what is wrong with saying "Graphical Interchange Format"? One of the reasons we have acronyms is because the words themselves are a pain to write/type. When talking it should be no problem. Same reason I say BITMAP instead of bmp. There are obviously some exceptions but I dont see the problem with just saying the entire thing.

Neither do I, I think saying the full thing is totally fine but I never would lol

I pronounce it Gif as in Gift like many other people, and who cares if I pronounce it wrong, I'm never going to meet any of you, none of you are going to hear me say it, so why argue?
