And you have yet to explain why it is dumb, seeing as how your own english language has a ton of g starting words that use the j sound
i'm done reading your moronic ranting everytime someone expresses an opinion, again its an acronym it can be pronounced however the person talking wants to pronounce it, i'm done talking about it, get a life and take up a new cause. someone please close this to shut this guy up.

funny, then why do the authors of the gif format firmly correct anyone that pronounces it wrong? Gee, could be because they are pronouncing it wrong
But, I will gladly follow your case and begin to call Big Mac's, Biff Mucks. Why not? I mean after all, it's just a series of letters right? And who says I cant take the name of something accepted and offical and turn it into whatever my rebellious self wants :P

The word "versus" is a Latin word. The ancient Romans pronounced it
"wersus." I guess anyone who pronounces it with a v is pronouncing it wrong then, by noprofile's logic.

^ahh, that is where you are wrong because we are not speaking Latin, we are speaking English and the word has been modified to our likings.
I totally agree with np, but he is getting too upset and involved in this. SS is being kind of stubborn too.

Ah, but we're using noprofile's logic that the creator's pronounciation is correct, no matter how we think it should be pronounced. If the creator was French, and said it was "jif," then it should still be pronounced like that, right?

The Romans didn't create English did they? No, and versus is an English word. The Romans did not create versus, they created "wersus".

it's pronounced "jiff"
The same way jpeg is pronounced j-peg, and bmp is b-m-p or bitmap and not "bimp".

Yes, exactly - it's like a product name - pepsi is pepsi.
and yes, NP, needs to take a chill pill and be "civil" - it's a pronunciation , don't have a heart attack ;o

They did create a lot of English, over 60% of English is Latin or Latin-derived. And they did create versus. They PRONOUNCED it "wersus." The spelling and meaning are exactly the same in Latin and English.
