GIF, or JIFF?

Hello, I'm kind of arguing with my girlfriend about how the word GIF is pronounced. Is it pronounced GIF as in "gift" or as in "jiff"?

GIF.

Stands for Graphics Interchange Format, so its quite obvious.

errr, no, i'm talking about pronounciation... does the G make a G sound like in "gift" or does it make a J sound like in "jiff"

Steve Olsen informs us correctly: it's pronounced like "jif". j like jiffy lube. I will go with the creator's opinion

Everyone I know in the whole world says it as "G"if as in gift.

Hmm... I only know of one person who pronounces it like that.

I meant as in the first word that it stands for "graphics" meaning that it should be pronounced the same way. I don't give a damn what the creator says!

I dunno, i think it's Jiff.

It isn't a matter of thinking, it's a matter of what the creator calls it.

If he says gif as in jiff, then by all means I'm going to pronunce it jiff because that is the correct pronunciation.

That would be like calling McDonalds, MdDonlalder even when you know the correct pronunciation for it.
