Help On Graphics Cards

Hi,
Im thinking about buying a new graphics card but i dont know which one to go for, I've read many reviews but i cant decide and i wondered if anyone could help me. I dont want to spend too much money on one, thats why i have been looking for the best value for money cards. By the way, i only have PCI not AGP.

Thanx in advance

probably the 128 mb ati radeon 9000 or teh 128mb 5200 FX.

most poepl would deem the earlier FX line (5200, 5600, 5800) a failure, I do aswelll. So i would suggest the 9000.

Definitely the Radeon 9000 series. The cheapest and most power+quality for the money.

Umm Dryfire ... please stop saying that abot the fx line. Only the 5800 was a flop, it was quickly replaced by the 5900 and then the 5950 ... I have the 5200 myself and it works beautifully, runs gta vice city at high res without a hitch, and its quiet. ATI may be on top right now but dont dismiss nvidia completely, thanks!

i'm not completely dismissing nvidia. teh 5700 ultra and 5900 ultra are good (aswell as the 5600 rev 2.)

Most poeple would not consider the 5200 a gaming card and it cannot really fully support dx 9. (don't tell me 'but it says so on the box').

If you want to look back a few months you'll see the whole dx 9 nvidia fiasco.

if you have some dx9 enchs you'd liike to show me be my guest but from what i gather the 5200 is not a prize card.

It was well worth the price ... only $125 Canadian. ITs still a 128 meg card, agp8, opengl 1.4, tv out and dvi, it cane even support a 2048x1536 res and 32 bit colour at still maintain 75hz refresh rate ... not bad for a "low-end" card in my mind ...

DirectX9? I dont care what it says on the box, or what anyone else says. And no I'm not being ignorant ... I'm telling you that it runs Vice City, which requires directx 9 (and no I didnt have to download any additional drivers to compensate for what supposedly called a lack of directx9 support) with no problems. Sorry but thats the only game I can give commments on right now since I havent had much time in the last few months to play games ...

And excuse me if I seem defensive .. I'm just tired of people who dismiss the fx line when they really just haven't tried it. The 5800 I know was bad, damn thing sounded like a lawnmower, but the rest of the line is excellent in my mind.

Requiring DX9 is not the same as using DX9 only features, it still has the same features as DX8, the interface just got updated for the new cards.
