Running more than one monitor

In order to run more than one monitor off my computer, and have all the screens linked, i need to buy individual video cards for each monitor, stack them in the tower, and thats it? do they all have to be the same type card, ati/ radeon, etc, and same model too?

in your opinion, would you rather have 3 monitors linked, or one monitor with a better video card?

My Radeon 9700 Pro is a dual-head card. You can get triple (and I believe quad) head cards from Matrox.

However, if you want to stack up the PCI cards, it should be manageable with UltraMon (google it). I run two, but have been considering adding a third...before I do so, however, I need to make sure it's necessary and that sacrificing desk-space warrants it. Everything I have is functional, and I hate to give up physical space for screen real estate.

But I have the stuff. If you want I'll play around with it and let you know how it works.

Yeah, my big brother has a 9000 Radeo and he's running two monitors off the same card, so I'd imagine one would do it for you...

If you wanna run a dual moniter set up all you need is a video card that has a DVI port, 2 moniters (of course) and a DVI to VGA adapter (see link: http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD& ... Category_Code=VGAADP ).
