silvir-the site that has never been
Hey ya'll, some of you might remember me posting layout periodically around here. Well, I actually rarly put content into these designs, mainly due to time constraints in updating and working on it. But this time around I'm hoping to learn PHP (and a little MySql) to make my site a bit easier to update. So, here's the layout I'm working on:
http://www.silvir.com/silvir/
Nothing works right now (big suprise), but I think you get the idea. Down in portfolio the little buttons for the different pieces are way to bright, I'll fix that later. I also realize that I probably need to add some color to the site, but I don't know how!
Help please.

It actually has a nice flow and good functionality, which is always important with layouts. It seems like to many websites are doing this theme now, which means no real creativity yet. As for the color, grey goes with a lot, so figure out a way to implement a color similar to your style. Very good start overall.

I just didn't like the hidden scrollbar.

Flystitches: Thanks.
Liquid Zanth: I wanted it functional, so I'm glad you think I did that. I'll try to figure out a way to add some more color in there.
Nieb: *smacks self* To be honest, that's just a forgetful mistake I made, at first I thought I could fit it in an 800x600 browser without scrolling, but it turns out I was wrong. Thanks for the reminder though.
Anyone else?

its too flat.. maybe some gradient bars at the tops or something, theres a little too much space (maybe one pixel) inbetween the cells imo... but really good start here, liking the layout

Yes it DOES look like every other site in existence. (don't mind me, I just broke up with my boyfriend).....
Sorry.
It's just kinda..... well, the same. It's not bad, it's just not anything unique. It's this trend I'm noticing... people have stopped being inventive with their designs, and are just following trends set by more talented or skilled artists. Be unique. If it works, great. If it doesn't, oh well. ^_^

Trigxine: I see what you are saying. Perhaps I'll throw this layout into the heap with my mountain of other layouts which have been discarded. Or, maybe I'll use the partially finished layout which I made a while ago which actually was semi-original. So, do you think this is a better layout:
http://silvir.staghost.com/
Plus, you might appreciate that the layout is 100% pixeled.
Oh, and for those out there that aren't pixel artists, ignore all the writing/images in the content. But, for those lucky pixel artists out there, enjoy a nice tutorial on pixel art.
I'd appreciate more response, I'd really like to make a website that I'll finish.
EDIT: Just thought I'd note that I would change a few things with the layout. First would be that I would most likely change it into iframes (or maybe these 'divs', of which I've never actually used). Secondly, I would probably add a little body onto this big guy. And lastly, I would figure out somewhere to stick a stinkin' navigation! :P Any ideas? <--- This did no good in my last thread (in which I first posted this layout)
