IS there any free rendering progams?

Im sure there are a few free renderers (a search on google might bring some up) but the truth is, any renderer worth using is probably going to cost something. I could be completely wrong and if I am feel free to correct me, Im just thinking logically right now.

What program are you using? if 3dsmax, the best free ones are Vray demo, and brazil public test.
