Going back to school for web design....

Okay guys, i'm relatively new to the boards, but from all i've been reading on the board, i know you guys know what you're talking about. So here goes, i'm a recent graduate from Michigan with a degree in Computer Science, however due to the job market sucking absolute ***, i've decided on going back to school to learn something i love doing, web design. My question to you guys is, what art path is the best way to do this?? Graphic Design, or another? Thanks guys!

i think graphic design it's the best... but apart of that you must know how to code HTML or something, and know how to use the current soft to do your web design

yeah, sure... you'll get more knowdleges (*typo) about colors, combinations between fonts and colors, how to organize something... most of them, theories about how to design a thing, like a logo, font, etc...

I'd say interior design. You can learn a lot of things through commercial art, or coding, or various other things...but interior design (which is what I'm going for as well) is far more broad in its scope. Why waste your money learning about a few technologies that could be defunct in five years?

Teach yourself the programs you'd prefer to use. Go to school to learn about things that are not exactly self-taught, things that will help you excel in the field of design; color theory, balance, focus...touch on things like feng shui. Learn core elements that have practical application in every field of design.

That way when you're out there using the same program as every other kid, you'll have a huge advantage. The web isn't all flash. Treat client websites like a room. With the right application of color and texture, with the right arrangement of all the elements, you'll be winning webby awards left and right.

As for "fonts and things", a minor in commercial art wouldn't hurt!

What area you from? Is there an Ai (Art Institute of) in your area? If so I recommend you check out their programs, I'm taking Multimedia design at AiVB (Art Institute of Vancouver-Burnaby) and lovin' it. Smile www.aii.edu

His location says Chicago and there is an AI there. I was going to go there, but lost interest.
