illustrator question

i just started working with illustrator. but i want to know how to trace a picture so its like a sketch. the picture below is what i mean its from www.kickstandmedia.com please help me

Simply trace it using the pencil tool.

I use the pen tool. Am I weird?

Darthy, you are weird, but not for using the pen tool ;-)

malephika is right... kinda... You want to trace around the image using the pen tool. It looks like the nib of a fountain pen in Photoshop and Illustrator. Basically, you choose the stroke colour (this is the colour your lines will be) and your fill colour (this is what the shape will be filled with) and trace away. If you want, you can trace it and choose your colours later. But basically, just go around it with the pen tool.

If you get stuck, there is a thread at the top of this forum with tutorials in it which can give you some help...

You are not weird, but since the effect is for a sketch, the pencil would be much better because, wanting it or not, the pen tool gives a very clean trace because you probably won't be adding as many points as you would with the pencil, and even if you try to add them they still won't look very "natural".

I love the pen tool, but sometimes it is not the best choice ::scared::

Pick up a pencil you lazy bastard! HAHA, What, you need to do is pick the drawing implement you like most... A pen maybe? Otherwise go with a tablet! Charcoal!!!

I think I need a tablet before I play with the pencil. I just tried it with the mouse.... oh boy!
