My friend was on something a really long time ago back when we were freshmen in highschool, I think Accutane. It seemed to help a little, but his face was really dry all the time and he had to get his blood checked everyother month because that stuff can mess with your kidneys. At least it use to Smile

I'm sure it's much better now.

I was on accutane. It dries the h*ll out of your face and lips...lots of lotion and chap stick help. Did wonders for my skin...face, chest, & back. Blood work every month not really a big deal. Only cons I can think of are the ones listed in the book they will give you if you go on it. Depression is possible in very very few cases. I think Accutane has gotten a bad name because of all the depression stories...you just hear more of them than people who it works for.

Main advice...see a dermatologist.

Don't use Accutane, Proactiv is probably the best there is. You're smart to at least give it a try.

Or suck it up, wait it out, and enjoy things clearing up once and for all when you're past 23.

No, seriously though...accutane DOES have a bad name, but honestly your doc could give you a better picture of what is the best in your particular scenerio. There are always new and interesting drugs coming out. Science is always improving...

Personally though I have no experience with either. I always used witch hazel after washing...it really tightened things up and helped. But, if your case is severe...yes, asking the doc is the best way to go. The dermatologists went to school specifically for these sorts of things. I'd trust them.

hehe, I've been suckin' it up and waiting for a long time now. I have an older brother who's 26 and he still has it so I don't think time will cure it. I'll probably just goto a derm. and get proactiv since Accutane is probably way too expensive. I really wouldn't mind the side effects tho. For the most part, acne already gets me depressed so it wouldn't be that big of a change hehe. Thanks for the thoughts and hopefully more will have something from experience to say about this.

I use hazel and have NONE except for the occasional one on the corner of my mouth.

Use Spectro Jel. You can pick it up at any drug store. If it doesn't seem to help after two weeks (washing twice a day) then try Proactiv.

Proactiv and Spectro Jel clear up my acne no problem, and my face isn't dry.

Proactive sucks.
If you get cystic acne, it wont help. -_-
