sure, you can upgrade your machine... but itll cost you $300 for that new video card...

there wont be an end to the console wars unless microsoft buys all the game developers... of course, it also plays down to simple economics... microsoft won the computer market by doing the age-old tactic of flooding the market first with the most... Microsoft hasnt been able to nor is it possible to gain a monopoly on the console market because it is so unstable...

there won't be an end exactly, i'm sure, just like there was never an end for PC's and Mac's. but with Microsoft backing it, i think the XBox will eventually rein supreme. it has the money, and all the time in the world. if Bill Gates has monopolized the industry with Windows, why not the XBox?

and for your point of the console being so unstable, i assume you mean Microsoft is unstable. but that doesn't stop it from being the best, because.. i mean.. look at Windows. it's the most unstable, but more people use it than anything else.

doesnt matter if Microsoft monopolized the pc OS market when dealing with the console market, Microsoft had the first with the most in the new GUI system, they could not repeat that in the console market without inventing a whole new market...

and im not referring to the xbox at all, the console is unstable (as in, the console market), changes in prefrences flow from console to console, and there will never be an established dominating force (just look at Sony, they dominated the console market from 98-00 with the original playstation, yet even with an established consumer base, plenty of time and money, the PS2 just didnt do as well

Well I am a PC person all the way, but I do enjoy consoles too.

Started with an Atari 2600 -- the king it its day. Pitfall by itself was worth it.

Remember the IntelliVision? My friend had one & I loved that thing. There was an awesome AD&D game for it.

NES was awesome - that damn football game!
Sega Genesis - OK
Dreamcast -- good while it lasted

PS1 -- the old king - NHL 1998 is a masterpiece

Nowadays here is my list--

1. X-Box
2. PS2

(Have not tried Gamecube)

well, just because you may think they won't do it this time, doesn't mean they won't. i could be wrong, but so could you. for all we know, gamecube might come out on top.

but in my opinion, i believe with Microsoft's backing and many game companies selling to Microsoft, the XBox just has more support.

I hate to nitpick here, but Apple had the first GUI as far as I know.



Anyway.. here is what is in my apartment:

Sega saturn
Nintendo
Super Nintendo
Nintendo 64
Nintendo Gamecube
Playstation 2
Xbox
PC


For consoles, I choose xbox. It has the most games I like, much better graphics than PS2, and I happen to like the controllers (Both the big style and smaller ones) better.

Overall, I choose PC just because of the different style of games and the graphics, resolution, and msot importantly.. Mods.
