TF IRC Information

First of all, the server for #central is currently: irc.veonex.net
----
Never used and IRC Client? Here is how to get started:

1. Get mIRC. It is the leading client for IRC. You can get it at: http://www.mirc.com/get.html
You might be lost right now as to what IRC is. IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. And that's just what it is, it looks like a big chat client, with all sorts of rooms (which are called channels). It has many, many more uses than that though.

2. Install mIRC. The setup program you downloaded is pretty straightforward. Put a link to it somewhere easily remembered. (tip - put a shortcut to it simply called 'mirc' in your windows folder. that way, you can jsut go start>run>type in mirc> and go!)

3. Open mIRC. You can change the server options by going to File>Options. There is many other settings there that you might want to explore as well.

4. Connect to the server. You can do this by changing your options in the options dialogue and clicking the lightning symbol , or by typing "/server -m tc.tutorialnetwork.org" If you get an error, read it. They are usually descriptive of the problem.

5. Enter the channel. To get familiar, click the globe with the number symbol. Press Get List, and it will list the channels. It will list a lot of channels, and it may take a long time. To keep it simple, go back to the status window and type in "/join #central". All channels start with "#". You should see a list of people there. You have reached your new home.

Things to know:
mIRC uses functions and commands, and has a sort of program code that is Unix Shell. Some commands that you may want to remember are:

/server -m <server>
Connects to the server you specify by opening a new connection window. You won't be disconnected from other servers.

/join <channel>
Joins the channel you specify in the server that you have active at the time. If the channel is not established by people already there, it will create the channel and automatically op you.

/nick <string>
Changes your nickname to what you enter.

Some general things to know:
-There are bots in most established channels that take care of monotonous duties like kicking people for swearing and other things.
- a "~" before a person's name in a channel means they are a IRCop. In #central, this means they are a founder/admin. This means they have control over everything in the entire server.
- a "@" before a person's name in a channel means they are an op. This means they have control over the channel. In #central, it means they are an advisor/supervisor.
- a "%" before a person's name in a channel means they are a halfop. In #central, it means they are a mentor/helper.
- a "+" before a person's name in a channel means they have been voiced.

-a "&" before a person's name in a channel means they are protected. In #central, this means they are a manager.

Terminology:
Kick: being kicked out of a channel, usually for doing somehting against the rules
Ban: being banned from a channel
Alias: a custom command that performs longer tasks, to make it simple for the user
Shun: a punishment for breaking the rules or otherwise..the server will disregard any input you send to it. You can't say or do anything.

If you have questions about mIRC, or if you want to know more about making aliases, give me a PM.
