Damaged Hard Disk
I have a machine at home that was previously running win 2k pro. I decided to try and install win 2000 server over the top but when I tried to format it said that the disk was damaged. I checked all connectors were in and that nothing had happened to the disk and then tried again - same outcome. I then deleted all the partitions on the disk and tried once again to install server 2000. As before it said the disk was damaged. The hard drive had worked up until the format just fine. What could have caused this and how do I resolve the issue, any ideas?

have you tried reinstalling win2kpro? If not, try that and see if you get the same error.

If it is physically damaged then you are basically out of luck I would think, short of sending it back and havin new platters put in. Have you tried a low level format utility>? I had 2 WD drive that died on me and wouldnt allow a format. They had a format utility that completely erases the disk...just writes zeros across it erases bad sectors and all(windows will label anything it cant access as a bad sector regardless of the physical shape of the disk)....try contacting the manufacturer to see if such an animal exists for them. may be worth a shot if it is just a bad sector throwing you off
