Well, only to a point! If you're going to view from a static location, it could easily mimic 3d by projecting much like a polarizing 3d setup would appear, but using layers instead. You wouldn't be able to walk around the image, but if you think of it in terms like the home videos Tom Cruise watched in his apartment in Minority Report, you could achieve percieved 3d with only a 2d camera.

The say the images are 2d, not 3d. They jsut float in the air.
