There is no need for him to download linux, backup his windows files, format his computer, and then install linux. Sure linux is great, but all he wants to do is develop php scripts, not run a full fledged server. Keep that in mind when you post from now on in this thread.
Another thing...
Also, im not sure why you would use wine for a webserver,
Now, reread what I said.
Also keep in mind, the only way you're going to get Photoshop, or any Windows program to work under Linux is by using wine. Even so, I'm not positive if that method works well or not.
I was not referring to the web server.

im assuming you have never installed a dual boot system with linux / windows so firstly:
he doesnt NEED to download it, you can purchase a boxed set also, as i said.
he does not NEED to backup his computer - its recommened although not required, i have yet to see anything go wrong if you do it correctly.
he definitely does not need to format his computer, he can easily use parted which is included with the red hat 9 package, resize his windows partion to a reasonable number and just give linux 3/4 gb to run

If you had read the full thread you would have realised that i actually suggested sokkit (formely known as phpTriad) to do testing as it had everything he needed and was easy to use. The "install red hat" post was a sarcastic comment that you hear every linux user say (well most anyway
) say)

I beta-tested Sokkit, and it was much better back when it was free. The developer made this GUI interface for managing the elements of it, and it caused me all sorts of problems. I have since learned how to configure my own Linux machine with Apache/PHP/MySQL, so the need is no longer there, but trust me you'll be better off in the long run setting up Apache/PHP/MySQL yourself, as it's a valuable skill.

I personally know how to do that, although if your new and just want to do testind i would recommend phptriad as it installs all three (php / apache / mysql) and extras (phpmyadmin etc) by clicking an install screen... far quicker and easier for anyone who doesnt know how to set it up already. The installation is not really the valuable part unless of course you want to install a few more copys elsewhere in the future. aslong as phptriad / sokkit give you access to the configuration files (php.ini httpd.conf etc) there should not be much difference.
