Linux Friends Watch out, There is a Fox in the herd
My Linux Family we could possibly get sued!!!
I don?t know if any of you have read the PC Magazine lately but we are about to be attacked by who it seems is a fox in sheep?s clothing.
Let me give you the run down:
Unix was made by AT&T who licenced Unix out to ?The Santa Cruz Organization? (SCO) and others. Eventually AT&T sold Unix including patents and copyrights to Novell (Courts attempt to break up AT&T because back then they were huge). Anyways, Novell tried with Unix (UnixWare), didn?t make it, so they sold Unix to SCO who now practically owns all of Unix.
IBM who recently came in the Open source business (well, not entirely) is being sued that they are making copyrighted Unix codes open source to Linux. Do you see the damage this could do to Linux? Anyways there is more: The Company that is suing IBM is none other than Caldra!
A Linux distributor who acquired SCO in 2001 (changing their name to SCO Group).
Their arguing that Linux Kernel 2.4 has some of the Unix code that is SCO?s property. SCO is going after IBM first (to get the big money first), then Linux!
At current SCO wants people to pay license fees! $700 for a single CPU!! Some companies have paid license fees already and guess who they are? Microsoft and Sun!
Here is the last paragraph on this topic in PC Magazine: ?So far, the winners are the companies that recently paid license fees to SCO: Microsoft and Sun. And the big losers? All those people who installed Linux thinking they were getting a legal open-source operating system and now have to worry about whether it was indeed too good to be true.?
What do you think will happen?

Thanks for bringing up something that is like 6-7 months old.
I wouldn't be worried, SCO is suing IBM for their mistake of releasing UNIX's source, it has to do with the IP code. However, the case is flimsy, so there is no fox, wolf, or anything, you're just highly misinformed. They're basically saying it's their's, but not really, but they had it before so and so and they should be able to license it based on their according price. It's basically a bunch of poor idiots who didn't see the potential when they made it public domain, and are now trying to collect the perks(since Linux out does Windows in terms of servers 2 to 1).

Hahaha!
Jeez, I hope this doesn't actually fall through. I am just starting to get my feet wet in Linux and now they're trying to destroy it, just my freaking luck.

PC Magazine never ceases to amaze me with their stupidity. Microsoft isn't paying anything, they are 'supporting' SCO, get it right or shut up, this is the problem with reflecting on articles that are old because idiots like PC Magazine have people who think AOL is still the best, and that Windows is the most stable platform, use some sense.
Go to linuxcult.com or neowin.net and read on this instead of relying on an idiot magazine like PC Magazine. Sun is doing the same thing, funding, Sun's Solaris is their own making and doesn't contain original code, it was inspired from the original UNIX source.
And it isn't too good to be true, that's just more PC Magazine propaganda, IBM will win because these patents are not being presented, there is the question of why didn't they jump in 4-5 years or more ago. They lost a ton of money from the DotCOM crash, and this is their way of regaining.
I'm not going to get any further into this before all of you so called paralegals jump in here and think you know what your talking about, when really you're relying on some goofy article a fat idiot with a beard who's scarfing down donuts wrote while he was jerking it to his latest creation.
