need help with BMP quality
my friend wants to make a picture his startup screen on Windows 95 (i'm guessing) and he needs help making the size smaller. is there any way to do that, without making it all blury and stuff? yes, it has to be a BMP.
edit :: yes i know this is in the wrong section, but i need this answered quickly and i'm leaving in 20 minutes
edit 2 :: okay, i found something about no compressing.. i'm not sure though, so if i come back tomorrow and there is nothing here on it, i'll delete the thread. sorry for bothering anyone.

As far as I know it has to be in 8-bit colour (256 colours) but other than that anything should work. I could be wrong though.

well, the reason for it being a smaller size is that my friend is trying to change his start-up screen. and it only takes certain file sizes, you know. so i dunno.

Crop? bmp also has rle or something which does a certain amount of compresion. The only other possible thing in the universe for a 'uncompressed' file format is reduce colour depth or reduce the size. Those are the logical bounds.
