your referring to the "Loading" samurai, Right?
If so, yes, Frame by frame animation.
if your talking about the Middle Trailer, then Thats probably just a imported siloulette (sp?) from an AVI. or gif... Possibly simpler than that.
It is very nice looking though

I have feeling that this is a very common technique called rotoscoping they just take a video of the guy doing the samuri thing, import it to flash and trace over it frame by frame manually as a sillouhete. then add the other effects

yes, but this technique is usually done with a video editing program. While you could import the video into flash, and then break up each frame, and trace it as a bitmap, it would save you time to just apply the effects using one of several video programs.

yeah thats what i thought but dosent trace bitmap usually yeild bad results and huge file sizes, this animation looks really sharp.

I'm pretty sure he meant Trace as in by hand with the pen tool, not using the Trace Bitmap function within Flash.
It would definately not look that sharp if you used the Trace Bitmap function.

If you film a guy in front of a white background, you can easily make it completely black/white using "adjust levels" in video editing software. I'm not familiar with AfterEffects but i'm sure it has this feature.
Then all you have left is black and white, and you can import to flash and trace bitmap with good results. Then you need to do a lot of tedious optimising to make the file size acceptable... but WB can easily afford to hire some people who are willing to do that.
