copying but not cropping

i have a problem... this is bothering me with all the images that i make but i will just use a logo as an example. ok what happens is that i create the text for the logo on one file and then create the shape for the logo on another. When i want to copy the shape on the file with the text and then put them together to make the logo it crops the image to just the shape. So the image is just the original image of the shape covering up the image of the text. It crops the entire image to the copyied one. Anyone know what happened?

try using layers... Layers > New Raster Layer and then put the text on the new layer, then once you get it the way you want, go to Layers > Merge > Merge All (Flatten)

sorry about that cummon someone post, avius, i didn't see your post. Yes i am familiar with layers and do sometimes do what you said but in instances where i need to copy an image onto another what should i do?

I'm not quite sure what's going on, if you could give a visual example that would be good... but from what it sounds like, you should copy the image with the text, paste it as a new layer, and then change the Properties of the layer to Multiply or something like that... or use the magic wand tool to select the background of the text image, and then go to selects > invert selection, and then copy and paste that. does that make sense?

CTRL+E - Pastes into a image
CTRL+V - Pastes as a new image
CTRL+L - Pastes as a new layer
CTRL+T - Pastes with a transparent bg.
CTRL+Shift+L - Pastes INTO a selection ie: A Rectangle..
CTRL+G - As a new vector selection

Hope this helps i dont even know if this is what u want i think what u are asking for is CTRL+E or Ctrl+Shift+L
