Graphics Forum Help/Suggestions
Hi, I own and run Rico Designs, which used to be up via lycos' free web space and a free ricodesigns.webhop.net domain. My site was forums only.
Now, im brining it back to life, still forums only with a very wide range of graphics, computer based, off topic, allsorts of forums/threads within it. Now a friend of mine, who happens to own a few sites such as GhostRecon.net, is going to 'lend' me a block of his webspace - i think it was 150Mb of space, 2Gb Bandwidth, and a load of features to support my forums - Invision Powed Board.
However, i will require a domain name, mods/staff for the forum etc. Since the hosting is currently free for me my only renevue requirement would be to meet my domain name costs i suppose, and possibly make a little profit which wil then me put back into the site to buy more bandwidth and web space etc.
Now i would like the pro's advice on accomplishing this. I.e. who should i get the domain from, what would be the best ways to attract people to the site, the best places/ways to advertise, best places to shop for professional, mature and responsible mods etc. Any help is much appreciated.
Rico

www.godaddy.com for domain registration - $8.95/year - i have over a dozen names registered there, never a problem, and they offer 24/7 phone support should u muck something up
for getting the traffic, thats a bit of a toughy, especially since your asking on a "tutoraial forum" such as this
ive found that just having my banner link in my sig and being an active non spamming member on several art/photo/graphics/puter/misc forums brings in TONS of people... but again, i dont spam, i just leave text links or banners there
for the mods, surely u have some friends who can help mod the place... at worse u can do it all yourself at first then recruit active, knowledable people from your forum or even take applications from people on here

yes, i setup iphotoforum.com and built www.mikepanic.com from scratch, mostly in notepad if u can beleive that one.
forgot to mention that the other great way to get people to your site is to do a banner exchange w/ similar sites
iphotoforum.com is no longer doing this for free... but we do have space at the bottom for micro buttons (88x31) for only $8.00 usd/month and limited 468x60 banners at the top in rotation, PM me for more info on those. the micro buttons are not going to be in rotation, they will b simply lined up at the bottom of each page, so u will get more views that way, and honestly its a great bang for the buck, considering last month we had 1.7 million hits and 260,000 actual page views
