How to do payment securely?

Ok... I am able to accept credit cards, but I don't know how to get the number from an online form securely. Should I make the form send me the number via email? I figured that wasn't very secure at all.

If I went ahead and got an SSL Certificate and everything, and the page with the form was secure... could I make it email me the information ? Or will the email still not be very secure ?

How should I go about doing this? I just need to figure out a way to get their information submitted from a form to me securely so no one can get their CC#

This is a professional site, don't really wanna use paypal. I just need a simple way to do secure transactions.
