English Problems

Hello Everyone,

My goal is to become an English Teacher, but sometimes I make the most stupid mistakes. And i've got some questions to:

is it i or I?
when do you use to and when too?

More to come!

Thanks in advance,

Klaas Koopman

It is I, not i.
Use "too" when it applies to an amount. i.e. "There are too many posts in this forum."
You can also use "too" in the sense of addition, or adding something to your thought. i.e. "Bob needs help too."
Use "to" in most other cases. i.e. "Hand that paper to Bob."

Edit: It's not the best explanation, but I do a better job than my English teacher, hehe. Shocked

Hey, I want to be an English teacher too

(I thought that was witty, I used both 'I' and 'too' Wink)

an easy way to figure out when to use too. just substitute the word "also" for "too" if it makes sense still then that's your word. unless it's reffering to an amount like kryptonite said.

example:

That is my favorite band too.
That is my favorite band also.
Makes sense

I went to the doctor.
I went also the doctor.
Makes NO sense

get it?

and then the amount part is easy to understand. "that's too much money" etc. etc.

Was he joking? I wish he were.

Now, the question is do you know the difference between healthy and healthful, when to use fewer and when to use less, when beside or amoung (among) are appropriate, and while we're on the subject, when to use beside rather than besides?

Of course there are tons more....

I, too, thought it was witty.

Use I when it is the subject, and me when it is the object.

John and I went to the store. (Subject of the verb)
John told Mark and me. (Object of the verb)
John asked Bob to be behind me. (Object of the preposition)
