please help! this is urgent!

Hi! I have two things that are really urgent and need to be answerted quickly! Please! Here they are:

1. When I put a new layer on, and try to erase, it erases BOTH of the layers, where as I only want it to earse the top layer (or one layer. not both of them) How cna i fix this?
2. And when ever I type, I is in caps. the caps lock is not on, and i know i did this somewhere but i forget where. How can i get this back to regular?

first of all NEVER expect to get a response in 25 mins...

1. try reinstalling photoshop....only tip i can give sry
2. did you try pressing capslock? if that doesnt work scan through the option control panel - keyboard or wherever it is

ok i have never encountered this problem before, but I can venture some gueses.
Its possible that your font doesn't have a lowercase I. I have many fonts that don't have lowercase versions of alot of letters. Try changing the font and trying again.

As per the erasing issue, you need to reexplain that sucker. I don't understand what you mean by erase the layer. You mean with the eraser tool? Or do you select-delete. Or are you dragging hte layer to the trashbin?

Go Window->Character and click on the button as shown in the attachment. Of course, if you are trying to write in a font with all caps as a standard, it won't make a difference.
