photoshop document size

i made a new document 4 inches wide by 2 inches high and it produces something so much larger, i have the zoom set to 100 % should it not product a canvas actually 4 by 2 inches

what did you do? take a ruler and measure it against the computer screen? it might work though... i was thinking it referred to how big when you print out but i suppose it should project a canvas 4 by 2 inches is a 50 by 50 pixel pic IS 50 by 50 pixels.

The dot-resolution is set for print -- probably 150 or 300 dpi. If you go in and change it to 72dpi, you'll get the right size.
