Transparent with PNG

why is it that when i export it as a png to make it transparent it doesnt seem to wanna work.
this is what it turns out like. It always has that grey thing around it??? and when i do it as gif it comes out with crap colours and its not smooth around the edges. I need help.

it's not smooth around the edges cause your not anti-aliasing.
