Planning on New System
Hey guys Im planning on getting a new system here it is http://www.gateway.com/home/prod/hm_700xl_proddetail.shtml
i hope i can get it as soon as next month, well anyways i was wondering what the weekness of the system would be, maybe not buy the extra ram, (any place i can get it cheaper even with shipping and handleling) would a wireless mouse and keyboar be good....
is there any dell or other mayor companies that offer something similar or better?
all im thinking on adding or upgrading is the xp home edition to pro and add the surge protector, and some ram but im not too sure about getting it from gateway....
would the system as it is be fast enough to do 3dsmax game editing and video edit.
would it be better ordering online or going to the store, im thinking of just doing it online....
thanks im hoping i get a get a good computer with this kind of investment....

Not totally true.
I have used a gateway for 3 years now and never had problems really.

gogetajr, I haven't yet looked over your computer's specs but I wanted to post this while the offer was still available. If you visit newegg.com, you can get 512 DDR Ram (crucial.com is the manufacturer) for only 90.00 USD as opposed to the standard price of 110.00. I'd go over there and take a quick look see.
As for the wireless mouse and keyboard, I opted not to purchase those because I've heard they have conectivity problems and can suck down batteries rather fast. Of course, those are only opinions so one way to find out for sure is to go buy one:o
I'm building mine right now (See Thread: New Computer; Please Help in Water Cooler) if you're interested in checking out my specs.
Good luck!

Ok, first off I would never pay that much money for a gatway or dell.
Both those companies made their money be offering low priced low spec PCs for people that don't anything about them. If you want a high end system then go with some one who does that, such as Alienware. I'm not a fan of alienware, but not because they are bad, just because you could build yourself and save a ton of money.
another tip I would give you is get what you need, the main thing that pc you listed is good for is bragin rights, and the gateway sticker kinda hurts those.
You have 2 200GB HDD's there? c'mon lets be a little more realistic.
anyway, since you want the best, I made a few improvments to the pc, here you go, (the price is a little steep but the braggin rights are way steeper)
