Portraits - Darken Effect Howto - Fades to black

Hey Fellas,Ladies.

I have been searching for ages How to do this Effect when someone is in a dark room and some light fall on their faces. This is commonly used in film posters etc. Parts or the face and body fades to black whilst you can see clearly the part of the face where the light falls on.

Try making a new layer and then using the gradient tool with the color black and set it to fade from black to transparent. Then adjust the layer transparency settings to the face shows through just a tad. Might want to use the lasso tool to select which parts you want the blackness to fall on the face beforehand.
