Have firepages php/mysql, tried regular install...not working
I've been using the phpdev/firepages installation package for php and mysql, but some software I'm trying to run is looking for default installations of both products (the firepages version sets everything up it's own way).
So, I've tried installing Apache/php/mysql on my own from the current stable releases, but I can't get anything except Apache working properly.
I'm trying to do this with access for everyone on the Web, since I'm going to be running YaBB Bulletin Board, and a web community on my own server.
Any good tutorial links out there on how to install Apache/php/mysql in their stock forms so as to facilitate www browsing by others?
Thanks very much,
shawn:)

np, if you're running xp like me, you might stumble across one problem, when you're trying to set the user password, you'll get some error, can't remember what exactly, anyway, if you do, it's probably because mysql isn't running, so to solve it, click start > run and type "NET START mysql"

Thanks damell. I'm running WIN2000Server. I ran through this tute, and some others I've found. I've made such a mess of everything that I'm going to re-install Windows and start from scratch. I hate stuff like this. I really just wanna play with Flash and some HTML LOL (kidding, trying to get a whole community site up...blah on the actually doing it part).
Thanks again,
Shawn:)

Thanks IceCube. I installed that, seems to work great, outside the problems I'm having above-and-beyond.
I am having some really funky problems...can't get to http ://localhost from my server anymore, but I can access everything from my workstation/via the www? Strange.
It's time to burn everything and re-format/re-install Windows. Then I'll re-install your link, as it seems to do the job fine, and I actually got the YaBB I'm trying to get up half installed this morning. So I'm sure it will be better on re-formatting - & once I figure out what a chmod 777 is...LOL

OK, got the new Apache/php/mySQL package up and running (thanks for the link IceCube!)...all new install. And I was able to get Invision Board up and running, forums added, etc.
But nothing to do with email is working. Do I need to do something special to get email up and running on a server, with a router? I thought just setting all the main ports like 80, 21, 25, etc. to enabled with the router would ensure I could send and receive emails...do I need an email server or something?
Sorry for the very basic dumb questions, but I'm so close...just have to ask...
