Transparent images? (easy question for pros)

Hey, i'm new here.

I was wondering how do I make images with transparent backgrounds in Photoshop 6?

Here's what I did...

I went to file, new, and selected "transparent" underneath the contents part.

Then, I started creating my graphic.

When I completed, I put the graphic on my site, but to my surprise, the graphic's background was white instead of transparent!

Does anyone know how I can fix this please?

Not a pro (not at all), but I think in PS6 you are suppose to do something like Export > Transparent GIF or Save as...

I think it's something like that. I remember reading about it in one of the tutorials I did. But then again, I might be totally wrong.

Also not a pro and also ran into this same problem the first couple of times.

First in the layers palette near the top there'll be a little check box, if you hold your mouse over it it says something like "Lock Transperant Pixels. Its where the box says Lock: then there's for different check boxes. It's the first one. Check that.

When saving, go to File > Save for Web, you'll see the dialogue appear and a sample of what your image looks like etc. On the right hand side the first check box will say Transparent and it should automatically be checked.

Save your image as a .gif and you're ready to go.

I'd tell you but it's Mike Bibby and they beat out "Kid Canada" Steve Nash and the Dallas Mavericks so I can't.

Also, I don't know how. LOL
